Friday 25th October – bike *** Royal Military Canal - cloudy
We woke up with the alarm at 7 in the dark and set out for the shuttle,
making it at exactly the right time. We were back in the UK by 8.30 and
drove to Hythe which is only a short way from the shuttle and parked up
near the prom and at the beginning of the Royal Military Canal which I
spotted on the map. We cycled along the canal which was a bit different to
the usual canals we go on – it hasn’t got any locks and was only used
to move military stuff up the coast. We could only see the canal in the
town and then the path was a little way away and you couldn’t actually
see the water. We cycled as far as we could along the path, past the
perimeter fence of a safari park and could see a few animals including
giraffes! We came back along the road, back on the path and then had our
lunch sitting on a bench on the sea front. We were able to cycle all the
way back to the van along the prom. The weather wasn’t brilliant but it
didn’t rain on us. It was really muddy though and we got plastered, as
did the bikes! Drove to Robs and he had already left off when we got there
so went into the caravan and had a good chat. We went for a walk down to a
different river where they take the kids to do river studies and it was
really lovely. Very much autumn! They have got the key to the cottage now
so we all went to have a look at it when Hannah came home and went for a
meal to Ask for a meal.
Sat. 26th Oct – Walk *** Sayers Croft
The last day of our Autumn adventure and we walk in the woods in the lovely
Surrey countyside with our son and his girlfriend before heading home :)
Top trip made by taking our bikes !!!
